What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are a disease in which blood vessels in the legs protrude outward. Occurs when the valves in the veins that pump blood from the legs to the heart are weakened.
Family history, overweight, lack of exercise, prolonged standing or sitting, and smoking are known to increase the risk of varicose veins.
Varicose veins symptoms
① Too many spider web-shaped blood vessels are visible on the legs.
② Leg blood vessels are twisted or protruding.
③ Legs easily get tired after walking for just a bit.
④ It feels more comfortable when the legs are lifted up.
⑤ Skin disease occurs on the leg and doesn't get better.
⑥ Heavy legs and frequent swelling.
⑦ Constant pain in knees.
Varicose veins diagnosis stages
- Stage 1
Blue tendons are visible but not protruding
- Stage 2
One or two blue tendons protrude within 2mm in diameter
- Stage 3
Three or more blue tendons protrude and are severely twisted
- Stage 4
Diameter of tendons is 4 to 8 mm and they are agglomerated
- Stage 5
Venous pressure is high and the diameter is 8 mm or more. The vibrations can be felt at the varicose part of the leg when coughing
- Stage 6
Dermatitis, skin ulcer, skin discoloration on the legs, accompanied by varicose veins in the legs
Varicose veins treatment
Varicose veins treatment methods differ depending on the cause and disorder severity. It is important to treat it in a timely manner, as leg fatigue, cosmetic problems, and in severe cases skin color may turn black or skin ulcers may occur.
stage 1, 2 treatment
Vascular sclerotherapy (injection therapy):
blocks enlarged blood vessels by injecting a hardening agent. It is a cosmetic treatment mainly used to remove telangiectasia or small blood vessels with a diameter of 1 to 2 mm.
stage 3-6 treatment
- Laser therapy: heating to 100~1000 Celsius degrees using laser energy
- RF therapy: constant heating at 120 Celsius degrees using high-frequency energy
- Venaseal treatment: blocking regurgitation of blood vessels with a bioadhesive material
